12-Inch PolyPlas™ Woofer

The JBL brand name is synonymous with bass, and the JBL L8400P subwoofer rattles the walls. It uses a patented PolyPlas™-driver material for the woofer cone; this material has both strength and a light weight, so bass is reproduced effortlessly and with maximum impact. To make sure the woofer has a rigid foundation for making the deepest and most-accurate bass possible, the PolyPlas driver sits in a cast-aluminum frame, which provides a nonflexing structure, and doesn’t interfere with the magnet, for "uncolored" and distortion-free bass. Producing all that bone-crushing bass can make ordinary drivers overheat, but the JBL L8400P’s driver is far from ordinary. Its 12-inch woofer uses a specially designed Heatscape™ motor structure that wicks away dangerous heat from the sensitive voice coil, making sure that bass will hit reliably for years to come. And to make sure all that bass is not affected by any unwanted resonances, the L8400P uses a JBL IsoPower™-baffle design, and ultrarigid enclosures.
